As Artist and Instructor at Shrub Hill Workshop I found attempting my first self portrait in front of the students very challenging. It was good to be reminded how frightening it is to attempt something new when one is lacking confidence.
It was important to me to work in Eugene’s free and loose style of painting on not default to my tendency to want to reproduce every minute detail. I feel I achieved this and was able to free myself from my usual constraints
Feeling both vulnerable and vain I chose a photograph that makes me look the way I want the world to see me, and how I want to see myself, but in the painting I seemed to accentuate the things I would prefer to disguise.
We all learned so much in a short space of time, about each other and about ourselves.
